Planning a romantic vacation is an exciting adventure in itself, but there can also be moments of stress when you wonder whether or not you’re remembering the important details.
Of course, consulting the internet is one way to research a vacation and build an itinerary, but I wanted to consult with those who are in constant contact with guests: hotel staff.
In talking to hotel managers around the globe, my goal was to find out what requests they get most often from couples traveling to their properties along with advice they have to create the ultimate holiday, full of romance.
Book Outside of High Season
"For a couple looking for the perfect romantic escape, we usually suggest that they consider travel dates outside of school and family vacation periods. If those dates happen to align with a milestone date – the anniversary of the first time they met, or a birthday, for example – that’s even better."
Get to know the city
"Discovering a new city together – or, if you know the city, exploring new areas – is a really special way for couples to connect, to have someone standing next to you when you see that surprising piece of art or even a beautiful green area."
Disconnect From The Outside World
“Couples are looking for a secluded hideaway to reconnect on a deeper intimate level and reignite the spark. They want to escape the hectic daily routine of their life and surrender their senses to outstanding one-of-a-kind experiences."
"Switch off your mobile phone or leave it with us during the entire stay. The idea is to disconnect to reconnect with each other."
Book A Room With A View
"There are plenty of romantic activities sure to spark romance, many of them are free such as watching a beautiful sunset from your resort’s oceanfront balcony room - the perfect end to a splendid day in paradise."
Let The Concierge Take The Reins
“Our advice to couples is to let us pamper and surprise them. This will allow us to create memorable experiences that are very personal and long-lasting."
“Never be too shy or timid to let us know how we can make the trip special for you and your partner. One of our favorite tasks is when our guests ask us to personalize the welcome card with cute nicknames and sweet words for their partner. Talk to your concierge! They are there to provide you and your spouse with anything to help make your trip one to remember.”
Ask For In-Room Details
"Whether it is a one-of-a-kind rose petal turndown, customized sweet treats prepared by our pastry team, or a private dining experience enjoyed by candlelight on the terrace of their suite, we are prepared to take our guest's vision for their romantic vacation and make it a reality during their stay."
Account For Downtime
"The best advice we can offer is that while couples may be tempted to pack a lot of activities into the getaway is to think about balance. We find that the couples who find the greatest reconnection during a romantic vacation plan downtime into their trip."
Ensure Shuttle Options
“Don't choose who has to be the designated driver when both can let their hair down. Once you arrive, let us do the driving! Our complimentary Lincoln Navigator seats eight but allows intimate snuggling for two, and we drive our guests to and from the hotel anywhere within a three-mile radius on a first come first served basis.”
Splurge For Extra Amenities
“We find couples are typically looking to spend more time enjoying the comforts of their room, and tend to inquire about the amenities featured in our most spacious and secluded guestroom offering. The brick fireplaces catch the attention of couples. What’s better than cozying up next to a roaring fireplace?
Try Something New
One common piece of advice from the experts I spoke to was for couples to step out of their comfort zones and try something new together. Whether it be a local dish they wouldn't usually eat or an activity that puts them in a place of vulnerability.
